As a member of the NSW Professional Teachers’ Council the Gifted and Talented Secondary Teachers’ Association (GATSTA) provides a forum for teacher training and the sharing of learning strategies currently used to assist high ability students. “Piecing it Together” will be held at the Australian Catholic University’s Strathfield Campus on Friday 29th May.
Conference presentations would be appropriate for all teachers involved in the education of gifted students. The focus is practical rather than theoretical. Presenters are currently engaged in lecturing or teaching within the field of gifted education.

Principle areas to be addressed include:

1) Organisation and administration,

2) Philosophy and other cross curricular subjects,

3) Extra curricular activities including university programs for high ability students and other competitions.

4) & 5) Two strands will address classroom teaching strategies and teaching in specific fields of knowledge (KLA’s).

We are excited to announce that our plenary session will be delivered by Adam Spencer, Mathematics and Science Ambassador at the University of Sydney and well known media personality. Included in the conference cost, along with a hard copy of presentation papers to support the sessions on the day, will be a copy of his Big Book of Numbers, a new Maths text for Gifted Students (Rrp $29:99) which includes teaching notes.

A draft timetable and registration form has been attached. Further copies are available online on the Professional Teacher’s Council website through their “Events” tab at
